Search and Rescue Save 4 from Building Collapse in Egypt

On 26th June, the collapse of a residential building in the northern Egyptian city of Alexandria caused four fatalities and a single injury, a security official said.

The run-down building collapsed on Friday 26th June, and civil protection workers were able to extracted four survivors, one of whom was wounded.

The five-storey building, like many in Alexandria and Cairo, dated back to the 19th or early 20th century, was the subject of a renovation order in 2018, and authorities had ordered that the top floor be dismantled.

Egypt has suffered many deadly building collapses in recent years, due to poor maintenance and construction standards.
