Lightweight fire-resistant material unveiled

Trelleborg has unveiled its new lightweight, fire-resistant material – the Soteria FRV material – for use in electric vehicle battery protection and increased fire risk applications.

The FRV material is flame-resistant to +1100OC for up to 90 minutes with no burn through or expansion during a fire. Once in place, it requires no ongoing maintenance and the fact it is easy to transport and fit means it is suitable for both new and upgraded applications.

Kerry Lyons, Global Business Manager for Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation in England, said: “We are very pleased to launch Soteria FRV, the second material in our Soteria range of protection materials. Weighing just 1.2 kg/m2, Soteria FRV is ultra-lightweight and extremely flexible. The material is capable of shaping to fit areas of any size, or for draping or wrapping around difficult profiles. When combined with Soteria FR1500 panels, it creates a lightweight, protective solution that is perfect for electric vehicle (EV) battery boxes and enclosures, or as a stand-alone option for increased fire risk applications.”

The material was unveiled this week on the first day of The International Composites Summit.
