Fire in Iranian cosmetics factory leaves 53 injured after gas leak

A large fire left many injured in an Iranian cosmetics factory after a gas leak incident.

According to Iran‘s state media, fifty-three people were injured in a giant fire and blast in the Iranian city of Karaj, near the capital Tehran.

Caused by a gas leak in parts of the production line, the explosion tore through the building, however, no fatalities were recorded.

The state media added that the incident took place at an industrial complex in Karaj, approximately 40 km west of Tehran in Iran’s Alborz province.

Those who were injured in the incident were subsequently hospitalised and some were deemed to be in critical condition.

This comes after two fatal explosions in Iran last week wounded numerous civilians and killed nearly 100 at a ceremony to commemorate Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Qassem Soleimani.

No further update has been given regarding the gas leak.
