Families return following Ajman blaze

At the end of last week a massive fire erupted at the Al Louloua Residential complex in Al Rashidiya 1 district of Ajman.

The fire quickly took hold and firefighters on the scene struggled to bring the situation back under control. Fire teams were aided by support teams from Dubai, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain.

Following the devastating fire, 500 families were moved to alternative accommodations, including 14 hotels in Ajman, 12 hotels in Sharjah as well as several hotel apartments in the two Emirates.

This week saw 50 families return to their homes in the multi-storey building, with more set to return in the next day or two.

However, there are 17 apartments that were completely destroyed as a result of the fire and those residents will remain in alternative accommodation for now.

Mohammed Omar, Director General of Red Crescent in Ajman, who assisted with the safe transfer of residents, has said that it would take at least three months for the destroyed apartments to be repaired.
