Bangladesh’s new fire safety manufacturing goals after UAE imports reliance

The growing market for fire safety products creates opportunity in the UAE after it found that Bangladesh relies on imports from the region among other international nations.

However, the country now wants to create their own manufacturing hub.

The domestic market for fire safety and security equipment is continuing to grow, which has created opportunities for local manufacturing and soon-to-be exports, according to business stakeholders.

Md Niaz Ali Chisty, president of the Electronics Safety and Security Association of Bangladesh (ESSAB) said that Bangladesh boasts an annual market of around Tk 14,000 crore-Tk 15,000 crore for fire safety and security-related products, and two local organisations have started to manufacture fire-resistant doors after the opening of the 9th International Fire, Safety and Security Expo-2024.

He explained that: “We want to become a manufacturing-based sector. We need policy support.”

However, there needs to be more stringent rules and regulations in the industry.

ESSAB Secretary General Zakir Uddin Ahmed said: “At present, there is no standard for fire safety items although other countries have such standards,” he said.

“Making fire safety equipment is not rocket science. We can manufacture it here. Please give us policy support.”
