21 Jan National Fire Protection launch leadership course to support emergency service workers
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has developed and launched a Leadership for Emergency Responders program.
The program aims to focus on emerging leadership, technical, and community issues to help those on the front line keep communities safer.
On their official website, the NFPA stated: “This one-day program will provide you with in-depth educational sessions, networking events, and live chats with industry experts and NFPA staff.”
They aim to support those that work within the fire service as first responders. The website details the breakdown of the course as well as describing how the program can empower workers.
The NFPA website said: “Leadership skills are critical tools for success, and emergency responders are no exception. Whether you aspire to rise in the ranks or are committed to being the best teammate or community partner you can be, developing leadership skills can help drive effective performance and deliver improved results.
“This program looks at three dimensions of leadership specific to emergency responders—personal leadership, technical leadership, and community leadership—to help you perform better, regardless of your role. Programming will cover a range of topics, and we are excited about the industry experts we’re lining up to deliver you valuable insights.
“Some of the things you can expect to learn about are transformational leadership; diversity, equity, and inclusion; mental health and resilience; data-driven leadership; fire prevention; community risk reduction; and emerging issues related to codes and standards.”
The course offers ten sessions within the program, with experts including senior personnel from the New York City Fire Department, Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell (the US Fire Administrator) aswell as representatives from the NFPA.
Sessions within the program include ‘Taking The Lead After Tragedy’, ‘Emergency Responders and Suicide: Helping The People Who Help People’ and ‘Diversity + Equity = Inclusion: Perspectives From The Field’.
