Worldwide car recall

Volvo has launched a worldwide recall of more than half a million four-cylinder diesel cars after discovering a fault that could lead to them catching fire.

The cars sold over the past five years have a plastic engine manifold which the Swedish manufacturers says ‘can melt and deform’ and in ‘extreme cases’ may catch fire.

However, drivers are being told it is safe to continue driving their cars if there are no signs of problems such as an engine warning light illuminating, a lack of power or an unusual smell.
