UAE stands in solidarity with Algeria and offers condolences over victims of fires

The UAE has expressed condolences and offered solidarity for the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria over wildfires which have killed 38 people.

The fatal wildfires have blazed through the country, forcing many to evacuate and injuring many people.

Reports say nearly 350 residents have been evacuated in various provinces. The country’s civil protection agency said that El Tarf was one of the worst hit areas with 16 fires.

Northern Algeria is affected by forest fires every year, with 90 people thought to have died in them last year and more than 100,000 hectares of woodland burnt.

The current toll for Algerians killed in wildfires this summer now stands at 42 after this latest string of wildfires.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the Algerian government and the families of victims over this tragedy, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
