Temporary housing safety measures

Contractors in Abu Dhabi who erect makeshift accommodation to house their labourers have been urged to include fire safety measures in their plans.
The advice was issued after a fire broke out in 50 labour units and a bus in Al Hamra. The incident caused no casualties or injuries and investigations into the cause of the fire’s are ongoing.
But Mohammad Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, director-general of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, urged all contractors and building owners to adhere to all the safety rules when using makeshift labour accommodation.
Al Ansari said they should leave enough space between the temporary housing units and to build the kitchens separately from the housing.
