20 Dec Suspected of arson
The recent arrest of four suspected arsonists may give Swedish police strong clues as to the reason why nearly 200 cars have been deliberately set on fire in Copenhagen in 2016.
A lot of the fires have been started in a poor ‘no go’ areas of the city where gangland crimes are common.
However one unnamed former Swedish arsonist has suggested the pattern of deliberately started car fires might be caused by the vehicles owners’ needs for cash.
He said that some years earlier, arsonists like him got paid by owners of older cars to torch their vehicles, so that they could claim insurance money above their actual value to replace them.
