28 Mar Stadium gutted by fire
Chinese Superleague football club Shanghai are going to have play their next home game at an ‘away venue’ after a large area of their 33,000 capacity Hongkou Football Stadium was gutted by a fire.
The blaze started in one corner of the stadium which, when it was built in 1999, was China’s first professional ground.
The fire started at 0830hrs when there were no staff working at the ground and firefighters were able to contain the blaze with no reports of injuries.
