Rapid responders

Firefighters in Ras Al Khaimah respond to emergency incident calls faster than many other civil defence forces around the world.

Captain Omar Mattar, head of civil protection in RAK has revealed that while the global average response time is eight minutes, the firefighters in the Emirate take on average just 7.3 minutes.

He said the firefighters’ figures were the result of “intensive and advanced training on a regular basis to sharpen their skills and boost their response time to fire and emergency reports.”

Captain Mattar also said that RAK Civil Defence is about introduce new tough fire safety regulations which should cut the number of call outs his firefighters have to respond to. From 2018 every building will have to smoke and gas leak detectors.
