12 Nov Protests in Russia
One of Russia’s biggest metallurgical plants in which 1800 workers produce zinc, lead and cadmium is facing closure after a part of it was engulfed by a major fire.
The damage to the factory in the North Caucasus city of Vladikavkas did not halt production but sparked a protest by hundreds of local residents.
They accused the factory of failing to adhere to ecological standards which contaminated the air in the city and they received support for their closure demands from their Mayor Makharbek Khadarzev.
