12 Sep Preliminary report findings
A preliminary report into the crash of an Emirates Boeing 777-300 passenger at Dubai International has found that the pilot was attempting to abort its landing when it hit the runway and then burst into flames.
The report released by the General Civil Aviation Authority indicated that the wind had changed direction moments before the plane touch down and while it was trying to get airborne again the plane hit the runway because its landing gear had not fully retracted.
All 300 passengers and crew aboard Flight EK521 from Thiruvananthapuram in India were safely evacuated from the plane, with only 24 suffering minor injuries but while trying to extinguish the flames one firefighter suffered a fatality.
Emirates have since paid compensation to the injured passengers and others whose luggage was lost in the fire. http://www.thenational.ae/uae/investigation-into-emirates-plane-crash-reveals-pilot-tried-to-abort-landing
