23 Jan New safety codes
The long awaited new fire safety codes for construction in the UAE will be published on January 22nd at the Intersec Fire safety conference to be held at Dubai’s International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Updating the code has been a priority for Dubai Civil Defence since New Year’s Eve 2015 when a high rise fire at the Address Downton Dubai Hotel attracted worldwide headlines.
In the 13 month since many aspects of fire safety have been reviewed and Lt Col Ali Al Mutawa an assistant general manager has summarised the areas the new code will cover.
He said: ““Chapters that have been updated include those relating to fire doors; cladding in buildings; access for Civil Defence trucks to reduce incident response times; and educating consultants, contractors and end-users on the latest modifications.”
