Massive fire breaks out in Qatar World Cup city near fan village

A huge fire broke out in one of Qatar’s cities hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022. The city of Lusail was seen on Saturday 26th November with plumes of black smoke, which could be seen from Qatar’s capital Doha.

Officials said the blaze broke out in a building under construction in the city and sought to reassure fans and residents via social media. Authorities said the Civil Defense controlled a fire in a building under construction without any injuries.

The Qatari government spent billions of pounds building up Lusail prior to the World Cup, and it is thought the city received £40 billion of investment, which went into building new hotels, venues and tourist attractions.
