01 Apr Lorry collides with train
All the 230 residents of the small American town of Callaway in Minnesota had to be evacuated for their own safety after a train was derailed.
The Canadian Pacific locomotive and 11 of its carriages left the tracks after it collided with a lorry tanker filled with propane.
As a small fire started in the truck the safety services also took the precaution of preventing traffic using the nearby Highway 59.
Both safety decision were later totally justified when the propane tank exploded sending a huge fireball into the night time sky.
Although two of the train’s crew members were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the initial collision no one was injured in the explosion.
