Landing gear failure

Landing gear failure

All the 100 passengers and crew were evacuated safely after a Fokker 100 airliner caught fire as it landed at Tehran’s Mehrabad airport.

Iran’s emergency department said the cause of the flames and sparks which shot from the back of the plane as it touched down on the runway was the failure of its rear wheels  to open properly.

The pilot had identified the problem on the approach to the airport and had proceeded to circle around trying to open all its landing gear but was left with no option but to land the plane on its belly.
