Hoverboard recall

Hoverboard recall

America’s federal Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is considering asking the manufacturers of the hoverboard children’s toy to recall some of their products.

The move follows the death of a 4-year-old, with two others left critically injured after a house fire in Pennsylvania.

The blaze started after the family heard ‘sizzling and crackling’ from a hoverboard that was being recharged and recent reports from consumers in 24 American states said there have been 52 self-balancing scooter fires resulting in over $2 million in property damage.

A CPSC spokesman said: “Consumers risk serious injury or death if their self-balancing scooters burn and ignite. Self-balancing scooters that do not meet voluntary safety standards pose an unreasonable risk of fire to consumers.”
