Firefighting charges introduced

Following a recent spate of fires in Sharjah’s industrial areas owners of businesses are to be charged for the cost of firefighting in their establishments.

The new rule which came into force on July 1 says payment will be due when it is found that a fire was caused because fire safety procedures and rules had not been implemented.

The charges will be levied based on the number of hours spent in fighting the fire as well as number of firefighting teams, workers and material used in the operation.

Col Sami Al Naqbi, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence said:” “Our priority is to ensure safety of people and at the same time ensure safe environment for Sharjah industrial area which attracts huge business in the country.”
