Fire in Chernobyl exclusion zone

Firefighters struggled more than two days to extinguish a forest fire that broke out in the 2,600 square kilometre exclusion zone that was established at Chernobyl in Belarus after the 1986 nuclear power plant disaster.

There were no reports of injuries among the 200 people who live in the zone, despite the exclusion zone , however, the head of Ukraine’s state ecological inspection service said the blaze had caused a rise in the area’s radiation level.
