Ferry fire

All passengers and their cars escaped injury and damage when a fire started on a ferry operating in the Solent waterway between the Isle of Wight and the English mainland.

The fire broke out in a wing of the ship’s bridge as it was on en route between Portsmouth Harbour and the port of Fishbourne on the Island.

Despite the fire the officers on the ferry, called St Faith and operated by the Wightlink company, were able to continue their journey to Fishbourne .

There it was met by firefighting crews who extinguished the blaze while all 65 passengers aboard the vessel were safely evacuated.
