Fatal fires double in a year

Figures released by Ireland’s Department of Housing revealed that the number of people who lost their lives in home fires more than doubled to 41 in 2017 compared to just 20 victims in 2016.

And in a campaign to persuade householders to  install fire safety equipment the Department added that there were no smoke detectors in over half of the houses that suffered fatal fires.
