Fatal fire in Rouen

A birthday party in the French city of Rouen ended in disaster after an explosion sparked off a fire in the night club where the celebration was being held.

More than 80 firefighters were needed to tackle the blaze at the Cuba Libre Club which led to the deaths of 13 people while six others were injured.

Officials described the incident as ‘a total accident’ which is believed to have been triggered by heat from the club’s basement.

There was also a report that the club’s ceiling was covered in soundproofing materials which quickly caught fire after some candles were lit.
