Dubai Municipality issues safety guidelines to prevent fire accidents

Dubai Municipality has reminded residents about the importance of safety when barbecuing, in an attempt to prevent fire accidents.

The civic body issued guidance and stressed the importance of safety whilst barbecuing via their official Twitter account.

The government body said: “Spend a wonderful and cozy winter and enjoy a barbecue gathering with friends and family, but don’t forget to follow #DubaiMunicipality’s guidelines for a safe barbecue to prevent fire incidents.”

The tweet shared two images, including one with some guidance for keeping safe whilst hosting a barbecue.

They stressed the importance of knowing if your BBQ stove is safe prior to lighting any coals, which can include making sure its still in full working order; especially if it’s not been used for some time.

Lighting a barbecue in an open space is recommended, as well as keeping a burning stove away from children and pets. It’s also advisable to keep lighter fluid away from the stove and out of children’s reach to avoid preventable accidents.

The tweets further advised Dubai residents to wear heat-resistant gloves and avoid wearing loose clothing near a burning stove.

Finally, they reminded residents to ensure a fire is fully turned off once they are finished barbecueing, as well as disposing of the coal properly to avoid burns.
