Dubai Marina Fire – residents evacuated

Firefighters in Dubai have been tackling a blaze at a residential tower in Dubai Marine that broke out in the early hours of Saturday.

A fire at Marina Diamond 2 in the Savorah Street was first reported just before 4am on Saturday morning. Firefighters from Marina station, along with their colleagues from Emirates Martyrs and Al Barsha stations were able to bring the fire under control just before 5.30am.

A statement from Dubai Civil Defence reported that the fire spread from the 9th floor up to the 15th floor. Police in attendance closed the nearby roads and escorted residents to safety. There were no injuries reported.

It’s been reported that the building’s fire alarm failed to alert residents to danger, with a civil defence spokesman saying the issue was being investigated.

The 15-story residential building was built in 2005. Some of the upper floors are damaged and waterlogged and residents have been temporarily re-housed.
