14 Mar Disaster averted at Marina Club
Swift action by Abu Dhabi’s Civil Defence personnel prevented a massive fire at the Marina Yacht Club turning into a disaster for many boat owners.
The fire-fighters were called into action as a blaze broke out on two boats and spread very quickly to six others vessels moored close by.
However, with the battle to contain the flames personally supervised by the Minister for the Interior General Shaikh Saif Al Nayhan, who was on site, many other boats were protected from destruction.
No casualties were reported and the ministry said as many as 211 boats and 23 jet skis which were also in the marina had not been damaged.
Afterwards The General Commander of Civil Defence at the Ministry of Interior, Major-General Jassem Mohammed Al Marzouqi, called on yacht-owners to abide by public safety rules to avoid such incidents in the future.
