Detectors now mandatory in all homes

Under the chairmanship of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum the UAE cabinet has approved a new rule that requires all homeowners in the emirates to install fire detectors in their properties. And to make the equipment even more effective in alerting firefighters, homeowners will also have to subscribe to the Civil Defence e-system which will monitor all the fire detectors in its operations room.

Existing homeowners will be granted a period of up to three years to ensure their equipment matches the new regulations and plans for any new buildings will not be approved unless they include the provision of suitable detectors.

The UAE’s federal and local governments will bear the costs of installing fire detectors for homeowners with limited income, and for those who receive social assistance from the Ministry of Community development.
