09 May Countdown to new fire detector law in UAE
There’s just a matter of months now until it becomes law for residences in the UAE to have fire alarms installed. From September 2023 it will be a legal requirement to have the fire safety devices in place, after the new law was passed back in 2020.
As well as setting up the fire safety equipment, property owners must also subscribe to the civil defence e-system.
The rule is in place for all existing residences, where those with a low income will have the costs of having fire detectors installed covered by the federal and local governments. It is also a requirement for all new buildings.
For buildings that are to be built in the future, the devices must be in place. Federal and local governments will only hand over completion certificates from the relevant department in charge of issuing licences, once they have checked the detectors are installed and that owners are subscribed to the e-system.
