14 Nov Car explosion wrecks home
An English pensioner’s eight-year labour of love building an iconic Austin-Healey kit car in his garage ended in a fireball that not only destroyed the vehicle but also wrecked his £550,000 home.
After spending thousands of hours on the project Rob Avant, aged 70, was just a week away from having the car paint sprayed and road tested when there was an explosion under the bonnet which led to a flash blaze in his garage.
Although he initially attempted to fight the fire with his garden hose he ended up suffering burns to his face, hands, and ankles as a series of five explosion rocked his home and made the building totally unsafe.
